My wife and I, together with my brother and his wife, stayed at the Bykenhulle House for one night at the end of July. The two rooms we rented were lovely, comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. The house itself and the grounds surrounding it are immaculate and maintained with great care and love by the friendly staff. But for us, the most memorable portion of our stay was the “homey” feel that prevailed throughout. This is exemplified by breakfast, All guests staying in the home the night before are seated together around one table. All are served the same exquisite breakfast. Conversation ensued among the diverse group of guests and we all quickly became like old friends. The highlight of breakfast was when we were joined by Bill, the founder and proprietor of Bykenhulle House. His stories, humor, encyclopedic knowledge and his interest in each and every guest typified this notion of it being more of a home than a house. Guests with very particular food preferences may be put off by the uniform nature of the breakfast menu. Similarly, those seeking solitude and quiet may be put off by the family-style nature of breakfast. But for those seeking the atmosphere of “home” rather than just that of a house – this is the place!
